अमावास्या
Amavasya — The New Moon Tithi
अमा (amā, "together") + वास्या (vāsyā, "to dwell") — "when Sun and Moon dwell together." Amavasya closes Krishna Paksha each lunar month, traditionally set aside for Pitru Tarpan (ancestor worship) and quiet reflection.
Dates derived from verified astronomical new-moon timestamps, converted to IST. Can vary by a day regionally — confirm with a local Panchang for rituals.
Diwali falls on Amavasya of Kartika. See our Tithi-level explanation of Amavasya, or its counterpart, Purnima.
