Vara — The Seven Sanskrit Weekdays
Vara (from vas, "to dwell") is the weekday — the same seven-day cycle used worldwide, each ruled by one of the seven classical Grahas. Today is highlighted.
Where the seven-day week comes from
The seven-day week, ruled by the seven visible classical "planets" (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn), is a shared inheritance across many ancient calendar traditions — the Sanskrit Vara names simply give each day its Indian planetary ruler.
