Today's Panchanga
The full almanac for today, worked out live for your city: all five limbs with the moment each one changes, sunrise and moonrise, the day's auspicious and inauspicious periods, and the month, season and year.
Calculating today's Panchanga…
The five limbs today
From sunrise to the next sunrise, with the moment each one changes. The first entry in each row is the one in force at sunrise, which names the day.
Times are for the place above, in its local time zone, calculated from the positions of the Sun and Moon (sidereal, Lahiri ayanamsa) — usually within a minute or two of a printed Panchang for the same city.

How this is calculated
We calculate the positions of the Sun and Moon with the standard low-precision series from Jean Meeus's Astronomical Algorithms, convert them to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa used by Indian Panchangs, and then search forward in time for the exact moment each tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana changes. Sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset are computed for the latitude and longitude of the place you choose, including atmospheric refraction and the Moon's parallax, so the times usually agree with a printed Panchang for the same city to within a minute or two.
Small differences can remain: some Panchangs use a slightly different ayanamsa or more precise ephemerides, and sunrise in practice depends on the local horizon. For ritual-critical timing, follow the Panchang of your own tradition and city.

How to read today's Panchanga
A Panchang day runs from sunrise to the next sunrise. Whatever tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana are in force at sunrise give the day its names — but each of them changes at its own moment during the day, so a full Panchang gives the end time of each. When a row above lists two or three entries, the first is the sunrise value and the later ones take over at the times shown.
Each time the Moon gains 12° on the Sun. Decides most festival and fasting dates.
Runs sunrise to sunrise, named after the seven classical planets.
The 13°20′ stretch of sky the Moon is passing through.
The sum of the two longitudes, in 27 parts.
Sixty in a lunar month; Vishti (Bhadra) is the one to watch.
Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika divide sunrise-to-sunset into eight parts by weekday.
Frequently asked questions
What are the 5 elements of the Panchanga?
Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (combined Sun-Moon position), and Karana (half-Tithi). "Panchanga" literally means "five limbs" in Sanskrit, referring to these five.
How accurate is this live Panchanga calculation?
It uses standard astronomical formulas (Meeus) converted to the sidereal Lahiri ayanamsa, with sunrise, sunset and moonrise calculated for the city you choose. Element change times and sunrise are usually within a minute or two of a printed Panchang for the same place. For ritual-critical timing, confirm with your local Panchang.
Why might this differ from a printed Panchang?
A printed Panchang names each day by the tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana in force at local sunrise. This page shows that sunrise value first and the later changes with their times, so it should match — small differences come from the ayanamsa or ephemeris a publisher uses, or from a different city's sunrise.
