Ekadashi 2027
Every Ekadashi fasting date in 2027 — name, day, Paksha, Hindu month, and where Smarta and Vaishnava observance dates differ.
Ekadashi (एकादशी, "eleventh") is the 11th Tithi (lunar day) of each Paksha (fortnight) — observed twice a month, once in Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) and once in Krishna Paksha (waning moon). Devotees of Vishnu observe a fast on this day, ranging from a single meal to a complete abstention from grains, and in the case of Nirjala Ekadashi, from water as well.
2027 has 25 Ekadashi dates (most years have 24; the 25th appears here because of how the lunar and solar calendars align this year).

Shukla Paksha vs Krishna Paksha
Shukla Paksha is the waxing-moon fortnight, ending at Purnima (full moon). Krishna Paksha is the waning-moon fortnight, ending at Amavasya (new moon). Every lunar month has exactly one Ekadashi in each Paksha — one falling roughly mid-month, one falling near month's end.
What Ekadashi fasting involves
Observance varies by tradition and individual capacity, ranging from a single simple meal to complete abstention from grains and beans, to Nirjala (waterless) fasting on the strictest observance of the year. The fast is traditionally broken the following day (Dwadashi) after sunrise — this breaking of the fast is called Parana.
Smarta vs Vaishnava observance dates
Smarta households (following general Hindu tradition) and Vaishnava households (particularly those in ISKCON and related traditions) occasionally observe Ekadashi a day apart, when the Tithi's precise start/end time interacts differently with each tradition's rule for which sunrise the fast should align with. Where this happens in 2027, both dates are shown above.
Does the date change by location?
Ekadashi Tithi timings are calculated for a reference location (commonly New Delhi) and can shift by up to a day for cities in very different time zones, since a Tithi is a precise astronomical moment, not a fixed calendar day. For most of India, the dates above apply uniformly.
Frequently asked questions
How many Ekadashi are there in 2027?
25 — one more than the usual 24, due to how the lunar and solar calendars align this year.
Which is the strictest Ekadashi in 2027?
Nirjala Ekadashi, on June 14, 2027 — observed without even water, and considered equivalent in merit to observing all the year's other Ekadashis combined.
What is Parana?
Parana is the ritual breaking of the Ekadashi fast, done the following day (Dwadashi) after sunrise — timing matters, as breaking the fast too early or too late is traditionally considered to reduce its merit.
