Gujarati Calendar ગુજરાતી પંચાંગ

Uses the same Vikram Samvat lunisolar mechanics as most of North India — but with one distinctive difference: the Gujarati calendar year doesn't start at Chaitra like the pan-Indian Vikram Samvat, it starts at Kartak.

Worth knowing

This is genuinely unusual: verify the date on any Gujarati calendar and you'll see the year change mid-way through the Diwali festival itself, not at Chaitra like the calendars used across most of the rest of India.

This is one of several living regional calendar traditions across India, all ultimately related to the same Panchang principles. See the Hindu Calendar overview for how they connect, or The Sanskrit Calendar for the pan-Indian Panchang system this site covers in depth.
