Sanskrit Essays (Nibandh)

Simple, correct Sanskrit essays on the topics schools ask most — each with its Hindi meaning, a short 5 or 10-line version for exams, and the words explained — plus how to write a good Sanskrit essay yourself.

How to write a Sanskrit essay (निबन्धलेखनम्) in exams

  1. Start with a shloka or a strong line — it shows command of the language and catches the examiner's eye.
  2. Keep sentences short and in the present tense (लट् लकार): सः पठति, सा गायति. Ten clear sentences beat five tangled ones.
  3. Match subject and verb — singular with singular (बालकः पठति), plural with plural (बालकाः पठन्ति).
  4. Use the right gender for adjectives: प्रियः शिक्षकः, प्रिया भाषा, प्रियं मित्रम्.
  5. End every sentence with a पूर्णविरामः (।) and finish with a line of your own feeling or a conclusion with अतः.
