Classical lines or new slogans?
Some lines above are centuries old — सत्यमेव जयते comes from the Mundaka Upanishad and is India's national motto; वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् is from the Maha Upanishad; शरीरमाद्यं खलु धर्मसाधनम् is from Kalidasa's Kumarasambhava; दशपुत्रसमो द्रुमः is from a Puranic verse on trees. Others, like स्वच्छं भारतं, स्वस्थं भारतम्, are modern slogans written in correct Sanskrit. Both kinds work well on posters and in essays.
How to make your own Sanskrit slogan
- Two short halves that rhyme or balance: जलं रक्ष, जीवनं रक्ष।
- Use the imperative (लोट्) for a call to action: रोपय (plant), रक्ष (protect), पाठय (teach).
- Or the "यत्र … तत्र …" pattern: यत्र स्वच्छता तत्र स्वास्थ्यम्।
